The African Action Congress (AAC) has inaugurated the Sowore–Magashi 2027 Presidential Campaign Council as the party steps up preparations for the 2027 general election, unveiling a structure designed to coordinate campaign activities across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The council will bring together political strategists, grassroots organisers, policy advocates, media professionals, digital campaigners, election specialists, legal practitioners and volunteers to support the presidential bid of Omoyele Sowore and his running mate, Magashi.
In a statement dated October 9, 2026, and signed by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Samuel Ajeigbe, and National Secretary, Oshiokhue Phillip Ikpeminoghena, the AAC described the inauguration as a major step towards expanding its political reach and mobilising Nigerians ahead of the election.
Abdullahi Usman has been appointed Director-General of the campaign council. He will be supported by deputies overseeing Strategy and Political Affairs, as well as Diaspora and Resource Mobilisation. Juwon Sanyaolu will serve as the council’s secretary.
The party also announced 10 national directorates to manage different areas of the campaign. They will cover Strategy and Policy; Grassroots Mobilisation; Labour and Civil Society Engagement; Publicity and Communications; Digital Media; Data and Technology; Election Operations; Finance; Legal and Compliance; and Administration and Field Operations.
According to the AAC, the campaign structure will extend from the national level to states, local government areas, wards and polling units. Coordinators at these levels will work alongside volunteers, canvassers, polling agents and supporters to engage voters in communities across the country.
The party said its strategy would combine digital tools with direct, on-the-ground mobilisation, with the aim of building a coordinated network capable of reaching Nigerians in both urban and rural areas.
It also highlighted the role of the SOWORENOW application in its existing mobilisation efforts. The AAC said the newly inaugurated council was intended to strengthen the platform’s work rather than replace it, describing the application as an important tool for organising supporters and coordinating campaign activities.
“The Presidential Campaign Council is not a replacement for this digital mobilisation infrastructure; rather, it is designed to upscale, deepen and expand it,” the party stated.
Beyond its organisational plans, the AAC framed the 2027 election as an opportunity to change Nigeria’s political direction, arguing that the contest should go beyond replacing the occupant of the presidency.
The party said it intended to take its message directly to voters across state capitals, other urban centres, rural communities and polling units. It also urged Nigerians who believe the country can pursue a different political future to participate in the campaign.
“The task of taking back our country cannot be left to politicians alone; it requires the active participation of the People,” the statement added.
The inauguration marks the start of an intensified mobilisation drive for the Sowore–Magashi ticket, with the party seeking to combine nationwide coordination, grassroots engagement and digital campaigning ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
