An autopsy report has identified a heart attack caused by a blood clot in a major coronary artery as the cause of death of veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar, who reportedly died at the age of 75 in Goa.
The findings were confirmed on Sunday, October 11, 2026, by a senior doctor at the government-run Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), according to a report by the Times of India citing news agency PTI.
The postmortem examination established that Patekar suffered an acute myocardial infarction resulting from a blood clot in the left main coronary artery, which supplies blood to a substantial portion of the heart.
The medical report attributed the condition to atherosclerotic coronary artery disease and classified the death as resulting from natural causes.
Patekar reportedly fell ill at his residence in Dona Paula, near Panaji, in the early hours of Thursday, October 8.
His caretaker contacted a nearby private hospital to request emergency medical assistance, prompting the dispatch of an ambulance to the actor's apartment.
Medical personnel attempted to revive him through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for approximately 45 minutes, but the efforts were unsuccessful.
He was pronounced dead at 5:10 a.m., with an attending doctor initially suspecting a heart attack.
His remains were subsequently transferred to Goa Medical College and Hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.
Following the examination, the actor's son, Malhar Patekar, travelled to Goa to arrange the transportation of his father's remains.
The body was taken to Pune before being moved to the family's farmhouse in Donje village, where funeral rites were conducted.
Patekar was cremated with full state honours in recognition of his contributions to Indian cinema.
The funeral attracted several prominent figures from politics, entertainment and public service, who gathered to pay their last respects.
Among those in attendance were Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, Union ministers Ramdas Athawale and Murlidhar Mohol, and Lok Sabha member Sunil Tatkare.
Actor Jackie Shroff, filmmaker and actor Makarand Anaspure, who co-founded the NAAM Foundation, and Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe were also present.
Patekar was widely recognised for his performances in Hindi and Marathi films, building a career that spanned several decades.
He earned recognition for his distinctive acting style and his ability to portray a wide range of characters across Indian cinema.
