Police Arrest Two Suspects, Rescue Port Harcourt Kidnap Victim After N10.3m Ransom

Rivers Command says two alleged members of a six-man kidnapping gang are in custody as efforts continue to apprehend other suspects

PORT HARCOURT — The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping syndicate and rescued a man who was held captive for three days in Port Harcourt after his relatives paid N10.3 million in ransom.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe, disclosed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday.

According to the police, the victim, identified as Hassan, was abducted on September 6, 2026, around Fidelity Bank in the Garrison area of Port Harcourt.

The kidnappers allegedly took him to Igbugulu Waterside in Borikiri, where he was held for three days before his relatives secured his release after paying the ransom.

Police said the command received information about the abduction on September 7 and subsequently deployed operatives of its Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU-AKU, to investigate the incident.

The investigation, according to the command, led to an intelligence-driven operation that resulted in the arrest of two suspects allegedly linked to the kidnapping.

The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects confessed to their alleged involvement in the operation and provided information about the structure of the gang.

The suspects reportedly told investigators that the syndicate consisted of six members and that the gang used a white minibus during the operation.

The remaining four suspects are still at large, according to the police.

The command said efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the other members of the alleged syndicate.

Agabe said the Rivers State Police Command would continue to intensify its operations to apprehend those still at large and bring all suspects connected to the incident before the law.
