Troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade of the Nigerian Army have arrested nine suspected drug dealers in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, and handed them over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The suspects were arrested on September 19, 2026, by troops of the Brigade’s Garrison during an operation aimed at preventing terrorists from gaining access to illicit drugs.
They were subsequently handed over to the NDLEA Yobe State Command on Tuesday.
Speaking during the handover, Major A. Balogun, who represented the Commander of the 27 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General M.S. Mukhtar, said the operation was part of efforts to disrupt criminal activities capable of undermining security and creating conditions that could support terrorism and other violent crimes.
The suspects were identified as Hassan Ibrahim, Ahmed Mohammed Shuwa, Adam Jibril Jakadi, Musa Aga, Mohammed Mohammed, Isa Adamu, Usman Salisu, Mohammed Abiso and Buba Kambari.
Items recovered from the suspects included cannabis sativa, tramadol, codeine, soak and die, master patch and other suspected illicit drugs.
Receiving the suspects and recovered exhibits, the Deputy Commander of Operations, NDLEA Yobe State Command, Garba Yakubu, said the handover demonstrated continued cooperation between the Nigerian Army and the anti-drug agency.
Yakubu said the agency would examine the recovered substances and take appropriate legal action against anyone found culpable.
He also urged young people to avoid drug abuse and take advantage of productive opportunities, including agriculture, instead of engaging in activities that could jeopardise their future.
The Army said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the supply of illicit substances and other criminal activities linked to insecurity in the area.
