Afropop singer Yemi Alade has revealed that her fans played a major role in choosing the title of her latest studio album, which was eventually named *It’s Yemi Alade*.

The singer said she decided to give her fans the opportunity to suggest possible titles for the project, receiving more than 200 suggestions.

According to her, one title repeatedly appeared among the submissions and eventually stood out — *It’s Yemi Alade*.

She said the repeated choice convinced her to adopt the self-titled name for the album.

Alade described the project as one of the more personal and adventurous stages of her musical journey, saying it reflects both her experience and willingness to explore new creative directions.

The singer explained that the album was developed around the concept of “something new, something old, something borrowed.”

The “old” aspect draws from sounds connected to her musical roots and earlier stages of her career. The “borrowed” element sees her experiment with styles beyond her usual Afrobeats and Highlife influences, including techno-inspired music, Kompa and disco.

She also incorporated elements of rap into some of the music, reconnecting with an interest she had developed earlier in her career.

Yemi Alade said the project reflects her growing confidence in following her artistic instincts and experimenting with sounds that listeners may not traditionally associate with her.

She described the album as an “audacious” project and said it represents her identity as an artist and her willingness to evolve without being restricted by expectations.
