The Federal Government has released eight months of the Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance for non-academic workers in federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
The payment covers the period from January to August 2026 and was announced by the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, on Wednesday.
Alausa said the release was part of the government’s efforts to improve workers’ welfare, strengthen industrial harmony and support uninterrupted education delivery in tertiary institutions.
The minister said the payment demonstrated the commitment of the Bola Tinubu administration to addressing workers’ welfare concerns under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He also stressed the importance of non-academic staff to the effective running of tertiary institutions, noting that their contribution was essential to the stability of Nigeria’s education system and its human capital development.
The payment comes after the earlier commencement of the Consolidated Academic Tertiary Institutions Allowance for academic staff.
According to the minister, the latest payment is among measures aimed at addressing legitimate welfare concerns and reducing disruptions to activities in tertiary institutions.
Alausa further said the Federal Ministry of Education would continue discussions with unions, heads of institutions and other stakeholders to resolve outstanding issues affecting the sector.
He commended workers, institutional leaders and unions for their patience and cooperation, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to meeting its obligations and pursuing reforms to improve conditions for workers across the tertiary education system.
