The Adebayo-Bugaje Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential campaign has suspended all national and state campaign activities for one week following the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State, which left 25 passengers and crew members dead.
The suspension took effect immediately as the campaign expressed condolences to the families of the victims and solidarity with the Nigerian Air Force and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
The campaign’s Head of Media and Communications Directorate, Mark Adebayo, announced the decision in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the campaign’s presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, and his running mate, Usman Bugaje, extended their condolences to the Chief of the Air Staff, the leadership of the Nigerian Air Force and the families of those who died in the crash.
The campaign said the tragedy warranted a pause in political activities, with Adebayo and Bugaje expressing support for the bereaved families and the military at a time of national mourning.
All scheduled rallies, town hall meetings, stakeholder engagements and media activities under the campaign have consequently been put on hold until the one-week mourning period ends.
The campaign also used the occasion to call for comprehensive insurance coverage for personnel of the Armed Forces and other security agencies, citing the risks attached to their duties.
It further called for regular and proper maintenance of military equipment to help reduce air crashes and other avoidable accidents.
The NAF aircraft crashed in Igbokoda on Monday, October 5, 2026, with all 25 passengers and crew members on board reported dead.
