Cole Palmer has committed his long-term future to Chelsea after signing a new contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2034.
The England international was already tied to the Premier League club until 2033, but the improved agreement adds another year to his existing deal.
Palmer said he was pleased to extend his stay, citing his belief in Chelsea’s direction and the club’s ambition to compete for major trophies.
“Chelsea means a lot to me and I think the club is going in the right direction, so I’m delighted to sign and I’m obviously very happy,” the 24-year-old said.
Palmer added that discussions with Chelsea’s owners, sporting directors, manager and fellow players gave him confidence about committing his future to the club.
Since arriving from Manchester City in 2023, the midfielder has registered a combined 91 goals and assists in 138 appearances for Chelsea.
His time at the club has not been without setbacks. A persistent groin problem affected him last season and contributed to his controversial omission from England’s World Cup squad.
England manager Thomas Tuchel later criticised Palmer for missing too many opportunities to represent the national team after the player withdrew from the squad for recent Nations League fixtures.
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso, however, defended Palmer on Friday, insisting that the midfielder remains committed to England and needs to regain full fitness to produce his best football for both club and country.
Palmer has made a strong start to the current campaign, scoring four goals in seven appearances across all competitions.
His influence at Chelsea has also extended beyond his performances on the pitch. His close relationship with Morgan Rogers reportedly played a role in convincing the England midfielder to leave Aston Villa for Chelsea during the summer transfer window.
Palmer’s new deal is another long-term contract handed to a Chelsea player, following recent agreements with Joao Pedro and Pedro Neto that also extend into the 2030s.
