An unidentified man was found dead behind the Monday Market in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State, with authorities yet to establish his identity or determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
Residents discovered the corpse in the early hours of Tuesday and alerted security operatives, according to a community source.
Police personnel subsequently visited the scene and conveyed the body to the General Hospital, Pankshin, where efforts were underway to identify the deceased and locate his relatives.
A community member, Panshak Rogo, who spoke at the hospital, said the identity of the man had not been established.
He also alleged that some sensitive parts of the body had been removed, including the ears and nose, while the private part had reportedly been tampered with.
Rogo appealed to people who have missing relatives to contact the police, particularly the Pankshin Police Station, to assist with efforts to identify the deceased.
The spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alabo Alfred, did not respond to calls seeking his comment on the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the man's death and the reported injuries to his body remain unclear based on the information available.
